Description
2.5 Sone Operation Sones are a unit of measurement used to quantify the perceived sound level of a fan. The lower the sones, the quieter the fan. 1 Sone is similar to the sound of a refrigerator or whisper, while 3 sones are similar to a normal conversation. Ideal for Medium Sized Rooms Proper ventilation is essential to prevent issues such as mold, mildew, and excessive humidity in your bathroom. Choosing the right CFM rating ensures efficient air exchange and comfortable environment. A general guideline is to choose a fan with a CFM rating that is appropriate for your bathroom size. 90 CFM Operation Calculate CFM by multiplying the length by width of your bathroom. If your bathroom is 9ft x 8ft, you need a fan that is rated for at least 76 CFM.

I needed a bigger capacity fan for my bathroom and I also wanted one that didn't look like a contractor special. I've installed Hunter ceiling fans in two bedrooms and was very happy with them so decided to give this light/fan combo a try.I got this one mainly because of its looks and because it was the Hunter brand. It happens to be quieter than my old fan so I'm thrilled with it for that reason as well. It's not completely silent, you will know that it's on but it's definitely not like the jet engine fan I used to have. In fact, I wasn't certain it was even working at first because it was that much quieter. After a shower, I leave it on for another 10 minutes and all the steam in the bathroom is gone when I come back. I had problems with mold growing on the ceiling above the shower which is why I decided to get a higher capacity fan like this one.My bathroom is 12' long x 3' wide with 9' ceilings. There is a formula that contractors use to calculate what capacity fan you need (also called the CFM). That is Length X Width X Height X 0.13 = Minimum CFM rating. According to that, I needed a fan with at least 58 CFM. Getting a bigger fan will never hurt you but getting a fan with a lower CFM will as I found out with the mold on my ceiling. This fan is 90 CFM and it does make a difference. No more mold for me to clean! The materials are of a high quality. They don't look cheap. It is a flush mount ceiling light but there is a small space between the highest ring and the glass bowl for the air to be ventilated out. That results in light shining from that small opening and casting out on to the ceiling in addition to the light going straight down. The glass bowl is frosted and uses two A-15 bulbs. The bulbs are pretty easy to replace. You just unscrew the decorative finial at the bottom and the glass bowl comes off.I have the fan and the light on the same circuit so it's both or nothing for me but I've always had my bathroom fans like that and that's what I prefer. I'm sure Hunter probably makes some kind of wall switch or interface that would enable you to use either the light or the fan without the other. As for installation, I hired an electrician to do it for $80. I didn't want to mess around with it because I knew that there would need to be a larger hole cut in the ceiling for the fan because it was so much bigger than my contractor special. I already had all of the proper ventilation going up through the attic and out of the house (it needs a 4" ventilation duct). If you don't currently have a ceiling fan that you're just replacing with this one, you'll want to factor that cost into the installation of it. It does come with its own mounting electrical box. I have it installed right outside my shower. If you have a GFCI circuit in your bathroom, this fan is safe to do that with. If your house is older and the bathrooms haven't been renovated for a while you may not have a GFCI circuit installed and will want to get with a professional electrician on that. The light it gives out is perfect for an overhead main light in the bathroom. I also have another recessed light plus sconces so it provides plenty of light in addition to those.
